So Many Service and Product Offerings It’s Getting Hard to Choose

As a consumer, you might feel like you are constantly being inundated with an unnecessary number of product and service offerings that offer little to no variation. There are simply too many choices that are all essentially the same and it makes it that much harder for you to rationally decide and choose which offering to go with.
Does this sound like a familiar problem? Well It’s something that almost everyone goes through.
The problem has gotten so bad and the market is so convoluted that there are numerous tools/websites designed solely for the purpose of helping consumers make decisions about the multitude of service and products offerings to choose between. And we aren’t talking about a few websites or tools. This is actually a substantially sized market.
So, it isn’t just in your head, there are a lot of options in the market and you’re not the only one who’s feeling this analysis paralysis. Consumers, now have to choose which tool they want to use, to help guide them in deciding about product offerings. A choice to make about the choice you can’t decide on. A bit of an oxymoron, but if it works, it’s worth considering.
You could even go as far as to say, that there are too many comparison websites offering guidance about which services/products to choose from—since there are too many options for a consumer to decide on. This is how ridiculous the diversity of choice has gotten with respect to consumers. We as consumers are inundated by comparison tools and sites that are helping us decide on the best product/service. It’s a double whammy to say the least.
Here’s Where I Notice It
I notice this most when I attempt to pop into a CVS to buy shampoo but end up looking at 20 different products that are essentially all the same. Before you know it, I’m reading the back label of products that are extremely similar and trying to differentiate between the products. If price isn’t a differentiator than I’ll look toward the most natural/organically sourced product possible. It’s not always easy to understand what you’re buying, but the less chemicals in the product and the less chemical used during its product the better. The greener product should usually win out, given a similar price point.
How Do You Solve This Issue?
This issue is more easily solved if it you try to stick to key things and ingredients that are a “no-no” and a few key things that are very important to you. For example, if having a green and ecofriendly product or service is the most important thing to you, then use that significance as a differentiator in helping you choose between products or services. When you find out what’s important to you, you’ll be able to make decisions that much easier. However, without that guiding center of importance you’re more likely to fall victim to making bad purchases.
Financial Decisions
The same can also be applied to making financial decisions. When you make financial decisions it’s important that you have a center guiding what’s important to you and what you have a hard limit against. This will help you make better financial decisions. For example, if you don’t want to earn any form of interest or yield due to your religious beliefs you know that you should avoid products or services that include them whenever possible. This will help you stay within your limits and also help eliminate things you don’t want. Due to this, you don’t use any high yield savings accounts and are content with keeping you money in a checking account where no or very little interest is earned.
